Saphir NL

Saphir NL is a tool developed for pressure transient analysis and is an Industry standard with over more 2700 commercial licenses distributed world-wide.
Analytical models
Saphir NL includes all types of well models, reservoir models and boundary models. Additional capabilities include rate dependent skin, changing wellbore storage, interference from other wells, gas material balance correction, well model changing in time, horizontal and vertical anisotropy.
Numerical models
In the non-linear (NL) versions, the linear slightly compressible fluid replaced by the exact diffusion problem. Super-position in time no longer applies and the numerical model is run as a seamlessly integrated standard simulator.  These numerical models also address nonlinearity. Numerical Models deals includes the exact diffusion equations for real gas, non-Darcy flow, pressure related physical properties, multiphase flow, water and gas injectors, water drives, and more recently desorption models for shale gas and CBM.

Topaze NL

Since the introduction of Topaze in 2003 Production Analysis (PA) has moved forward significantly. The old methods of assuming constant pressure or empirical decline functions have been replaced by a process employing advanced methodology such as Blasingame plot and using true diagnostics based on the analytical and numerical modeling capabilities developed in Pressure Transient Analysis.  
In Topaze NL, the slightly compressible fluid assumption and pseudopressures are replaced by the exact diffusion equations. In particular Topaze NL can handle water influx and 2-phase flow with water in the reservoir.

Puma Flow

PumaFlow is Beicip-Franlab’s new generation reservoir simulator featuring rigorous physical formulations, high performance computing and a brand new user-oriented interface. PumaFlow has been validated by Beicip-Franlab and its clients on some of the world’s largest and most complex oil fields in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Russia. It is compliant with industry standards, compatible with other simulators and is seamlessly integrated with  the most sophisticated reservoir engineering workflows.

Versatile calculator and rigorous physical formulations

PumaFlow embeds best-in-class formulations for any reservoir configuration, including black-oil, dual medium, compositional, chemical EOR, thermal, and unconventional reservoirs into a single calculator and user interface. For the last twenty years, PumaFlow has been the reference simulator for fractured reservoirs and the modeling of all exchange mechanisms between matrix and fractures including capillarity, gravity drainage and viscous forces, diffusion and block-to-block re-imbibition.

PumaFlow accurately handles various thermal processes that can be combined with dual medium and compositional options for fractured reservoirs. Optional gas adsorption model can be added to simulate shale gas reservoirs. All types of chemical EOR processes are accurately modeled, including polymer, surfactants, alkaline, CO2, ASP, foam, and others. PumaFlow offers also a complete solution to design and simulate Intelligent Completion Devices.

Unrivaled scalability and performances

PumaFlow numerical solvers and numerical schemes (SOLSS, IMPES, IMPEX and AIM) have been relentlessly optimized. They leverage computer configuration through unrivaled scalability across cluster nodes, adopting innovative solving algorithms and by optimizing domains partitioning. PumaFlow allows running very large models with performance improvement, often up to 64 cores. PumaFlow runs on Linux and Windows platforms.

Next generation user-interface

PumaFlow comes with an innovative approach to the user interface, using an industry-standard computer environment and supported by a relational database. All the static and dynamic parameters and input data used by the simulation can be interactively and graphically input, controlled and modified in seconds. PumaFlow can also run using traditional keyword files. It comes with modern graphically-oriented post-processing capabilities allowing instant analysis of the results of multiple simulation runs. The post-processing is also fully compatible with Eclipse, VIP/Nexus and CMG simulators.

Rubis brings simulation into the mainstream. It is now possible to build simple 3-phase, 3D numerical models, intuitively in minnutes. The focus is on interactively building the field as it looks and then grids buidls automatically inside this. The engineer can then concentrate on the problem, not on how to construct the tool. 
In v4.20 substantial improvements have been brought to address the very low permeability of shale gas and CBM problem, including the integration of stress dependence and the adaptation of the gridding to the local diffusivity. The import of reservoir geometries and properties from geomodelers (GRDECL, CMG) now includes the net-to-gross, and calculation of upscaled properties has been improved. The export of a Rubis sector to Saphir NL for pressure transient analysis now transfers the dynamic state of the simulation at the date of the extraction.


Production logging is now seen as a powerful quantitative methods that takes its own place in the set of data acquisition tools for the reservoir engineer, alongside transient and production analysis. No longer just the tool of last resort, PL is now used as a calibration point for reservoir model and as an important tool in the development over time of the producing intervals in the wellbore.
The interpretation process has shifted into the hands of the end-user engineer due, to a great extent, to the development of client, as opposed to tool focused software; Emeraude 
From Vertical injectors to horizontal or highly deviated multi-phase producers, Emeraude provides a comprehensive and intuitive sets of tools, to produce results from the log data from simple through to the most sophisticated tool strings.
Emeraude v2.60 offers a choice of zoned and continuous processing, with a two-step global regression that matches the log data at all points. The handling of multi-probe tools (MPT), such as Schlumberger FSI and Sondex MAPS, produces an open, streamlined workflow with an unparalleled range of tools for displaying, editing and handling data.
An ‘energy’ temperature model was also added to simulate reservoir thermal behavior to interpret steam injection tests and DTS data. Additional options include multi-rate PL and SIP, water saturation (PNL) monitoring, permeability correction and formation test QA/QC.


Amethyste is the Ecrin module dedicated to Well Performance Analysis. It has its technical roots in WAM, a tried and tested WPA program developed and used by Marathon since 1986. It spans the divide between data and datum in Saphir NL, Topaze NL and Rubis and provides a natural extension to results obtained from Emeraude.
Amethyste v4.20 is not sold separately. It is a free add-on to any Saphir NL, Topaze NL, Emeraude or Rubis license under active maintenance and under the current pricelist.

Diamant Master

Diamant Master is a client-server solution for reservoir surveillance designed specifically to deal with huge volume of data coming from PDGs. It permanently mirrors raw data from any data historian, reduces the number of points with wavelet-based filtering, stores and shares the filtered data. Filtered data can be exported to third party databases.
